The Ministry of Commerce (MoC) and Katalyst signed an agreement on 4 November, 2009 to increase the alignment between the Ministry’s strategic objectives and Katalyst’s programme. Mr. Mustafa Mohiuddin, Additional Secretary on behalf of the Ministry of Commerce signed the agreement while from Swisscontact Mr. Peter Grüschow and from Katalyst Mr. James Blewett signed.
They agreed to work together (and with other relevant Government agencies as required) on a range of specific issues identified as priorities by the Ministry of Commerce and falling within the overall mandate of Katalyst as set out in the Project Document. The initial issues are price volatility and comprehensive trade policy.
Katalyst will extend technical and financial support to carry out the activities under the framework of the arrangement of cooperation signed by the Government of Bangladesh and the Donors.
An advisory panel of five members of high reputation and coordinated by Dr Selim Raihan, Associate Professor, Department of Economics, University of Dhaka will advice Katalyst to work hand in hand with the Ministry of Commerce for the enhanced economic growth of Bangladesh thus reducing poverty.
