Begum Matia Chowdhury, MP, Honourable Minister, Ministry of Agriculture, Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh officially launched the Fertiliser Recommendation Software (FRS) on 29 April 2014. In her speech as the Chief Guest of the event, she thanked Katalyst for helping the Soil Resource Development Institute (SRDI) to develop FRS, which she lauded as a tremendous innovation.
In his welcome address, Mr Syed Ali Nasim Khaliluzzaman, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture and Director (Additional Charge), SRDI, explained that FRS helps farmers determine the specific fertiliser requirements for their crops and soil types. He also lauded Katayst’s role in developing and disseminating information about FRS among farmers.
Dr. Md Mokbul Hossain, Project Director, SMFS Project, SRDI, highlighted FRS as an important tool in providing agriculture information using ICT and reiterated that SRDI would constantly update the data, based on its nationwide soil tests.
Mr Emdadul Haque, Head of Government Relations, Katalyst, the Guest of Honour at the event, declared that FRS is an important part of Katalyst’s efforts to promote innovation in agriculture. He also thanked Grameenphone, Banglalink and Access to Information (a2i) Programme for extending their platforms to access FRS.
Dr S M Nazmul Islam, Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture called for the FRS information to also be made available through other mediums.
