Reaching Women through Inclusive Business Models – Challenges, Opportunities and Lessons Learned Sharing Workshop

Swisscontact-Katalyst organised “Reaching Women through Inclusive Business Models: Workshop on Challenges and Opportunities” on 26 February 2017 at Six Seasons Hotel, Dhaka.

The objective of the workshop was to disseminate the key learning of gender inclusive business models which were applied by private sector companies in crafts, prawn, and vegetable sector. The project has facilitated private sector companies and NGOs to develop innovative and appropriate service packages, distribution networks and promotion mechanism as well as improve market access for female farmers and entrepreneurs. Till date these inclusive business models have benefited 140,000 women farmers and entrepreneurs with improved access to skills, quality inputs and market linkages.

A panel discussion took place among the representatives of private and development sector organisations. Panelists included Ms. Nasreen Awal Mintoo, Founder President, Women Entrepreneur Associations of Bangladesh; Mr. Niaz Rahim, Chairman of Agora Super Store and Group Director of Rahim Afrooz, President of Bangladesh Superstore Retailer Association; Mr. Naveed Akbar, Head of Strategy, BRAC Social Enterprises, Mr. Md. Asaduzzaman Sheikh, Executive Director, Udayan – Bangladesh; Ms. Bidowra Tahmin Khan, Manager, Gender and Cross Cutting Themes, RDC Activity, Feed the Future, USAID. The panel members extensively elaborated on experiences from respective organisations and areas of expertise. Audiences from private sectors, development partners, projects, NGOs and academia graced the workshop with their presence and lively interactions. The session was moderated by Quazi Mahmud Ahmed, CEO, Future Leaders.
