Katalyst, in association of Consiglieri Private Ltd., organized a two day long career fair in Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) on 25 – 26 September to improve linkage between agribusiness industry and agricultural academia. This career fair was open for only students of agricultural universities with the main aim of helping them get a good exposure to the relevant industries as well as helping the agribusiness companies to source the right candidates for their jobs.
The chief guest of the event was the Vice Chancellor of BAU, Professor Dr. Md. Ali Akbar. Mr. Aminul Islam,Country HR Business Partner of Syngenta Bangladesh Limited also attended the event as the special guest. The event was chaired by acting dean Professor Dr. S. D. Chowdhury, Chairman, Students’ Affairs Advisor, BAU, Mymensingh.
Private companies such as ACI, NAAFCO, Rahimafrooz, BRAC etc. who participated in the fair mentioned that they recruit many agriculture university students every year and this fair was a big recruitment platform for them. Day 1 of the career fair started with the inaugural ceremony followed by a formal inauguration of the fair. All the companies encouraged students to drop their CVs in the CV booths that were set up in all the stalls. Some of the companies went a step forward and took ‘on the spot’ interviews of the applicants during the fair. The companies that participated were ACI, Bangladesh Crop Protection Association, Bengal Fish & Fisheries LTD, BRAC, Syngenta, Fasal Agro, Kazi Shahid Foundation, NAAFCO, Krishibid Seeds, , Quality Feeds Ltd, Provita Feed LTD, Rahimafrooz, The Metal (PVT) Limited and Eminence Chemical Industries Limited. Day 2 of the career fair focused on career counseling sessions. There were three guest speakers namely, Momtaz F. Chowdhury, CEO, KSF-Kazi Shahid Foundation, Farid Hasan Ahmed, Development Lawyer, Emerald Advocacy and Advisory Associates and Mr. Haider Jahan Khan, Head of seed and planning materials, Rahimafrooz CIC Agro Ltd who took different sessions on “Career growth in facilitating Rural Entrepreneurship”, “CV writing techniques” “Selling Power excellence”.
