A dissemination workshop on Dedicated Credit Line (DCL) for Maize Contract Farming was held on 23rd June, 2016 at Hotel Purbani International Ltd., organized jointly by Agrani Bank Ltd. and Katalyst. Chief guests at the event were Mr. Zaid Bakht, Chairman of Agrani Bank Ltd., Mr. Yasin Ali, Supernumerary Professor from BIBM, Mr. Golam Hafiz Ahmed, MD & CEO of NCC Bank Ltd and Mr. Fortunat Peter Diener, Head of MRM & IFM of Katalyst and several Managing Directors of the esteemed banks from across the country. Katalyst, with the support of Agrani Bank Ltd. and NCC Bank Ltd., developed the concept of DCL to address the high investment issue that is required to cultivate maize which is a huge obstacle for poor farmers, specifically in char regions. DCL is a collateral free loan product for maize contract farmers.
At the workshop, Managing Directors of banks across the country were invited for the purpose of disseminating information regarding DCL, so that the banks can replicate this model and reach more farmers. The event revolved around speeches from the honorable guests, presentations conducted by Ms. Jannat Adib Chowdhury, Manager of Maize Sector from Katalyst and Mr. Mohammed Hossain, Consultant on Green Banking, BIBM.
Sharing of all these information and experiences amongst approximately 100 participants molded the event into a successful one. The event ended on a positive note, with hopes that DCL, which is currently growing, will reach immeasurable heights in the future with the support of all the banks in the country.
