With the endorsement of Ministry of Commerce, Katalyst has established a 5 member’s strategic advisory panel. The panel is chaired by Dr Selim Raihan, Professor of Economics, University of Dhaka. Dr. Bazlul Haque Khondker; professor department of Econimics, University of Dhaka; Syed Nasim Manzur , Managing director, Apex Adelchi Footwear Limited; Dr. Nazneen Ahmed, Research Fellow, Bangladesh Institute of Development Studies; Dr. Khondaker Golam Moazzem, Senior Research Fellow, Centre for Policy Dialogue are the other members of the panel.
The panel will provide strategic advice to Katalyst in order to promote the alignment of the objectives of Katalyst and the Ministry of Commerce. As part of their task the panel yesterday has visited 3 sites in Jessore. The visit started by seeing how Katalyst is working in access to local government bodies through public private partnership as an example in poultry.
After that they went to see Community Information Centre (CIC) at Kapalia Bazar of Monirumpur to see Katalyst’s work in bridging the ‘digital divide’ by ensuring access to information based services to under-served local farmers and entrepreneurs. Finally the panel met Mr. Tapan Karmaker, a depot owner in Kalibari Bazar, Manirampur while he explained the technical and input assistance that he received and how that has helped him to become a successful depot owner and is also beneficial for the other prawn farmers and enterprise.
The team was accompanied by Mr. Emdadul Haque, director, external relations of Katalyst. Other officials from relevant sector team were also present during the entire visit.
