Honourable Commerce Minister, Mr. Faruk Khan inaugurates a ‘Business Journalism’ book supported by Katalyst

The Honourable Commerce Minister, Mr. Faruk Khan inaugurated a book on ‘Business Journalism’ supported by Katalyst at the Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban at Dhaka University (DU) on 26th February 2010. The book aims to promote sustainable growth of competitive and diverse media houses targeting the SMEs.

Business journalists and others involved in reporting on business issues often lack sufficient information on SMEs as well as an understanding of the underlying issues around SMEs. Due to this information gap, reporting on SMEs is not widespread.

By supporting the production of a Business Journalism book, Katalyst hopes to build the capacity and understanding of business journalists and thus improve the flow of business information on SMEs.

Terming the growth of business journalism a big achievement in Bangladesh, the Honourable Minister advised the journalists to use correct statistics and urged them not to distort the theme and context of news.

The Dhaka University Treasurer, Prof. Mizanur Rahman, FBCCI President Mr. Annisul Huq, Head of News and Director of Channel i Mr. Shykh Seraj, CEO of Citi NA Mr. Mamun Rashid, General Manager of Katalyst, Mr. James Blewett and Business Editor of the Prothom Alo Mr. Shawkat Hossain Masum spoke at the launching ceremony.

The book is jointly written by Ajoy Das Gupta, Journalist and Associate Prof. Robayet Ferdous of Mass Communication and Journalism department of Dhaka University in association with Katalyst and it is published by Srabon Prokashoni.
