Agricultural Universities can play a pivotal role for research & development in the agriculture and agri-business sector. Increasing linkages between academia and industry will provide a win-win scenario: On one side, private companies are able to better identify the market potential of new business models based on inclusive markets. On the other side, universities can enhance their curricula and practical skills of students by working closer together with the private sector.
In order to achieve this goal, Katalyst, Consiglieri Pvt. Ltd. and ACI Agribusiness have introduced the “Future Agri Entrepreneur Contest 2015,” a first of its kind agri-business case study competition with students from agricultural universities across Bangladesh. The grand finale of the competition took place on 6th March 2016 at ACI Head Quarters, and the winners were revealed by chief guest Dr. Shamsul Alam, Member, General Economics Division, Planning Commission; Special Guests Md. Hamidur Rahman, Director General- Department of Agricultural Extension; Markus Ehmann, General Manager, Swisscontact-Katalyst, special guest Dr. Paul Fox, Country extension, representative, IRRI ( Internatioanl Rice Research Institute) , Dr. F.H. Ansarey, Executive Director, ACI Agribusiness. The participating universities included Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Bangladesh Agriculture University, International University of Business Agriculture and Technology, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Agriculture University, Hajee Mohammad Danesh Science & Technology University and Sylhet Agricultural University. A total of 774 students from these six universities participated in the contest over the period of three months starting from December 2015. Team Golden Seed from Bangladesh Agricultural University won the case competition and proudly accepted the trophy from the special guests of the program.
