Katalyst and Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) have agreed to form a partnership through signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 25 March 2010 in Dhaka. The objective of the partnership is to work together for developing and implementing a national plan for promoting furniture export from Bangladesh.
The Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) of Bangladesh is the leading government authority for export market promotion with specific departments for trade promotion, commodity development, information and policy.
EPB acknowledges the suitability of furniture as a potential sector for export diversification and looks into the entire mechanism of export promotion starting from product development to marketing.
Since the beginning of 2009, Katalyst and EPB have worked together in the furniture sector on mutual interest in promoting furniture export through development of a base paper on the constraints and opportunities of the furniture industry in Bangladesh. EPB and Katalyst have also collaborated in PanelExpo in Delhi and International Furniture Fair in Tokyo-IFFT during 2009. Once the national work plan for establishing furniture export from Bangladesh is developed, it is expected to be endorsed by the public and private sector as the National Plan for Furniture Export Promotion.
Mr. James Blewett, General Manager, Katalyst and Dr. R. C. Barman, Director General, EPB signed the MoU. Among others, EPB Vice Chairman Mr. Md. Shahab Ullah, EPB Directors, representatives from BAFIOA (Bangladesh Furniture Industries Owners’ Association) and BFEA (Bangladesh Furniture Exporters’ Association) were present at the signing ceremony.
