Research is at the heart of any successful business strategy. Private companies thus have a huge research demand that can be harnessed to encourage and incentivize business-led innovations in Bangladesh’s agriculture sector. In order to strengthen the collaboration between research institutions and the private sector, Katalyst and RDA, Bogra, conducted a workshop on promoting and strengthening market-oriented research.
The workshop, which took place on 16th November 2015, initiated a discussion about how RDA can share its vast research capabilities with the private sector, contributing to more innovations in the agri-sector and accelerated economic growth.
The discussion resulted in several interesting findings that showed how the capacity of RDA can be enhanced to conduct more market-driven research and share the findings with the private sector. Initial discussions showed that there is a huge scope to strengthen the capacity of RDA researchers and research focuses of RDA. The panel agreed that to realize the vast potential of RDA in market-oriented research, capacity development initiatives should be tailored according to the need of the individual researchers.
The participants of the meeting included Mr. M.A. Matin, DG RDA, Dr. AKM Zakaria, Dr. Sheikh Fazlul Bari, Dr. Mahmud Hossain Khan and other senior officials and researchers of RDA. Nasir U Ahmed, Head of Communication, Capitalisation and External Relations, Katalyst, provided a presentation on ‘Developing Research Capacities’. Mr. Ahmed explained the capacity development plan for RDA and how RDA is going to benefit from it.
RDA is a specialized Rural Development Institution for training, research and action research. Katalyst and RDA signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in 2014 to promote and facilitate inclusive business initiatives. Under the MoU, RDA will produce agents of change through their Post Graduate Diploma in Rural Development programme.
