The 5th annual e-Asia 2011 conference, with the slogan ‘Realizing Digital Nation’ on international Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) for development event was held in Bangladesh during 1-3 December 2011.
The event was themed around five major areas which were such as a) Building capacity, b) connecting people, c) serving citizen, d) driving economy and e) breaking barriers. Katalyst presented the experience and achievement in utilizing ICT as tool for development and poverty reduction in three different seminars within the conference.
The speakers were Mr. Shahroz Jalil, Director Services Group, Ms. Fouzia Nasreen, Director Rural Sectors Group and Mr. Shahnewaz Karim, Director, Business Enabling Environment Group. The topics covered were Agriculture Services in ICT, Best Practices in E-Service Delivery and Public Private Partnership in Citizen Service Delivery: Lesson Learned.
Katalyst also organized an exhibition stall at the conference which displayed an array of information on the project through print and audio visual media. Many government and private sector agencies visited the Katalyst booth and took interest in the project and the information distributed.
The event was inaugurated by Sheikh Hasina, Honourable Prime Minister of the Government of the Peoples’ Republic of Bangladesh, and co-organized by Centre for Science, Development and Media Studies (CSDMS), India and Bangladesh Computer Council, ICT Division, Ministry of Science and ICT, Bangladesh and supported by the Access to Information (A2I) Programme, Prime Minister’s Office.
