Katalyst supported Bangladesh Plastic Goods Manufacturers & Exporters Association (BPGMEA) to promote usage of improved and innovative forms of packaging for agricultural products among farmers and traders.
To promote this initiative BPGMEA organized three regional fairs in Bogra, Jessore and Comilla during 20-28 May. The fairs were part of Katalyst’s strategy to help poor farmers incur less post-harvest wastage by adopting better forms of packaging for their products.
BPGMEA, is the apex body for plastic manufacturers in Bangladesh. In recent year, owing to contributory role of Katalyst, there has been a growing interest among BPGMEA to also have an agro focused portfolio of products of its members.
The fair was attended by plastic manufacturers, producers and dealers (corrugated carton package, jute sack, cork-sheet, bamboo baskets), traders (plastic sacks, bamboo baskets), package designers, government organizations (DAE, BSCIC, AIS, DoF), and NGOs. Each fair was a daylong event with 25 stalls with an average 3,000 visitors per fair. After the events many of the private sector companies have expressed keen interest to actively pursue BPGMEA to organize similar fairs and related promotional events targeted towards agro products packaging.
