In collaboration with Bangladesh Tourism Board (BTB) and support from Katalyst, Bangladesh Brand Forum (BBF) organised a day-long workshop on ‘Formulation of a Strategic Roadmap for Promoting Bangladesh Tourism’ on 6 November, 2010 held at the Dhaka Sheraton Hotel.
The workshop began with introductory speeches by Secretary of the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism (MoCAT), Mr. Shafique Alam Mehdi, who is also the Chairman of the Bangladesh Tourism Board (BTB) and by the Honorable Minister Mr. G M Quader.
This was followed by brief presentations from BTB, Tour Operators’ Association of Bangladesh (TOAB) and BBF. The Honorable Minister has expressed his interest to contribute to the growth of the sector in collaboration with the private sector.
The objective of the workshop was to define strategies for tourism development for Bangladesh, with emphasis on branding and promotion, analyzing current status and resources, benchmarking future growth and setting up an action plan. The workshop featured a diverse set of stakeholders and key industry players from relevant public institutions, top corporate houses, leading private organizations from the tourism industry, marketing agencies and media.
The strategic direction for promoting Bangladesh’s tourism industry was drafted based on the workshop discussion, expert opinions and research endeavors. The final strategic roadmap incorporating the recommendations will be presented to BTB and MoCAT for implementation.
