Mr. James Blewett, General Manager Katalyst made a courtesy call to the newly appointed Commerce Secretary Mr. Md. Ghulam Hussain on 9 February 2010. During the meeting, they discussed issues that would further improve the relation between Katalyst and the Ministry of Commerce. The Secretary underscored the need for increased buy-in from the side of Ministry. He added that the alignment between the work of Katalyst and the Ministry of Commerce is important for the sustainability of the project.
Mr. Blewett apprised the new Secretary about Katalyst interventions and stated that Katalyst is working for a vibrant service market that would ensure competitiveness of the SMEs. He also spoke about the operationalisation of the Advisory Panel after the series of discussion with the Commerce Minister. The Panel is now helping the Ministry of Commerce to establish an information based market management system and a long term trade policy. The new Secretary, Mr. Hussain lauded the role of Katalyst and wished the project to come in a big way to promote pro-poor economic growth in Bangladesh.
Mr. Md.Rabiul Islam, Deputy Chief, Ministry of Commerce and Mr. Md. Emdadul Haque, Director, External Relations, Katalyst were also present in the meeting.
