Katalyst facilitated Green Housing & Energy Ltd. (GHEL) in launching a preservation and chilling center for vegetables. The objectives of the project are introducing affordable technology and skill development training for increasing productivity, reducing post-harvest loss and helping farmers attain fair market price.
Green Housing & Energy Limited (GHEL) is dedicated to social enterprises development by linking corporate social capital venture funds with new technologies for ensuring sustainable development. The project hinges upon a Private Public Partnership (PPP) Model, and addresses the decent housing and energy solutions for the low-income people. With the objective to establish sustainable village model, GHEL had setup a low cost preservation and chilling facility for vegetables in Bogra and availing the offer to the farmers and traders as a business service, where the farmers can rent this facility to store their fresh produce for 3 to 5 days in case of oversupply or poor market price.
Furthermore, this project had reduced the dependency from national grid of electricity supply and use solar power making the project energy efficient. Secondly, as GHEL considered this project a profitable venture, they have a vision to expand such ventures in other vegetable growing areas in the future.
