The Export Promotion Bureau-EPB is sending Bangladeshi manufacturers to International Furniture Fair in Tokyo- IFFT 2009. Five firms, Akhter Furnishers, Hatil Complex Ltd, Furnitec, Partex and Quality Agro Forestry Ltd are participating in the event. To make this participation more effective, Katalyst, a private sector development project, is supporting the manufacturers. Katalyst brought in Mr. John Sacks, a British Consultant from Csil, Milan who will backstop the participating firms in identifying suitable products for Japanese market, networking with Japanese importers and branding of Bangladesh furniture.
A memorandum of understanding has been signed between Katalyst and the newly formed Bangladesh Furniture Exporters’ Association (BFEA). Mr. James Blewett, the General Manager of Katalyst and Mr. Selim H. Rahman, Managing Director of Hatil Complex Ltd signed the MoU. Mr. Mohammad Shawkat Ali, Deputy Secretary and Director, Fair and Display of EPB, Mr. AKM Akhteruzzaman, President of Bangladesh Furniture Industries Owners Association, Mr. Ferdous Ahmed, Managing Director of Furnitec and Mr. Quamruzzaman, the Acting Director of Partex were present on the occasion. The manufacturers are expecting regular orders from Japan after the event.
