Agri-Business for Trade Competitiveness Project (ATC-P), branded as Katalyst organised a National Dissemination Workshop on Local Agri-business Network (LAN) that was held on 14 December 2016 at CIRDAP International Conference Centre, Dhaka. The workshop was moderated by Prof. Dr. Zahurul Karim, Former Secretary from the Government of Bangladesh. Md. Hamidur Rahman, Director General of Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) and Dr. Helena Khatun, Director, Extension of Department of Livestock Services were present as Special Guests at the workshop. Narissa Haider, Private Sector Development Advisor from UKaid Bangladesh and Markus Ehmann, General Manager of Katalyst along with the organisation’s staff also attended the workshop. The workshop participants were relevant stakeholders of LAN which include upazila level government extension officers, upazila level trader association (TA) members, farmers, private sector representatives and donor agency representatives.
The purpose of the workshop was to understand how the stakeholders were benefitted from Local Agri-business Network (LAN) initiation and the views on how this network can be improved in the future. From the discussion there were few recommendable suggestions that proved to have a lot of potential for the future Katalyst-LAN initiative model. The workshop also underlined how useful Public Private Initiatives (PPIs) are to resolve farmers’ diverse issues. The participants shared their experiences of working with LAN and the overall consensus was to increase the growth of the network and utilize this to continuously benefit farmers.
