Katalyst organised a national launching of the Local Agri-business Network (LAN) Programme on 8 June 2014, held at the National Institute of Local Government (NILG) auditorium to share the concept and major activities of LAN programme with three government extension departments.
Senior officials from Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE), Department of Livestock Services (DLS), and Department of Fisheries (DoF), were among the distinguished guests of the programme. Professor Shamsul Alam, Ph.D, Member, General Economics Division, Planning Commission was the chief guest.
Mr. Piyush Kanti Sarker, Additional Director, DAE, Dr. Mrinal Kanti Mitra, Principal, OTI and Mr. Md. Israil Golder, Director, DoF were present as special guests. Mr. GB Banjara, Division Manager of Katalyst was also present at the event. Dr. Felix Bachmann, Country Director, HELVETAS Swiss Intercooperation (HSI), the co-facilitator of LAN programme, chaired the workshop.
LAN programme brings upazila level trader associations and farmer groups together to create a network which is linked to the extension agencies to ensure efficient and effective service delivery. Following the successful formation of the network, tripartite Public Private Initiative committees are formed to institutionalize the interaction of the involved actors.
Katalyst and HSI are focusing on expanding the model in 180 upazilas and strengthening the services in 116 upazilas already under the programme. The chief guest, Dr. Shamsul Alam praised the achievements of LAN programme and wished Katalyst success in the future.
