Katalyst organized trainings on ‘Public Private Partnership (PPP)’ for the Upazila extension officers, representatives of Upazila Business Membership Organizations (BMO) and rural farmers’ samities (groups) of 7 Upazilas in Rangpur and Jessore region. The training covered various aspects of PPP including elaborating the benefits of the partnership.
Four PPPs have been successfully formed in 4 Upazilas. These are on agriculture in Kaunia and Kaligonj Upazilas of Rangpur region and on poultry in Kotchandpur and Chougacha Upazilas of Jessore region.
Members of these partnerships are from three clusters such as upazila government extension officers from the vegetable and poultry sectors, representatives of traders and farmers groups who have expressed to work together to address various concerns of rural farmers.
The Kaunia Upazila Agriculture Sector PPP have clear plans to provide trainings to over 100 potato farmers where the Upazila Agriculture Officers will act as resource persons and Upazila BMO would cover the logistical and other costs. It is expected that institutionalized platforms for local Sectoral PPPs would significantly contribute to increase both the outreach and quality of local public extension services.
