Katalyst and Bangladesh Plastic Goods Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BPGMEA), with GMark Consulting Limited, organized a seminar and an exhibition to show how using plastic packaging in agriculture can reduce post-harvest loss and potential business opportunities in the sector.
The events took place at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre (BICC) during the “7th Dhaka International Plastic, Packaging and Printing Industrial Fair (IPF) 2012” from 16-19 February, 2012.
The seminar was attended by the chief guest Mr. A. B. M. Khorshed Alam, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Industries, Government of The People’s Republic of Bangladesh, special guest Mr. Jashim Uddin, Vice President, Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI), Mr. Shamim Ahmed, President and Mr. K. M. Iqbal Hossain, General Secretary, BPGMEA. Dr. Md. Kamrul Hassan, Professor of Department of Horticulture, Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) spoke about “Scopes & Opportunities of Plastic Packaging and Products in Bangladesh Agriculture” and Mr. Asif Mahmud Bin Tariq, Sr. Business Consultant, Katalyst delivered a presentation on “Impacting Farmers – Katalyst’s Experience and Insight in Plastic Products and Packaging.” This was followed by an open question and answer discussion session.
The participants of the exhibition displayed over 40 items including plastic crates for fish and vegetables, plastic cover for banana loom, plastic float and drum for fish drip irrigation, manual sprayer, poultry mat and many more innovative items.
Katalyst hopes that plastic goods manufacturers will tap into this lucrative market and include the items displayed at the exhibition into their product lines to expand their businesses.
