A round table discussion titled “Challenges and Opportunities for Rural Women being integrated into Agricultural Value Chains” was organised on 19 October, in Dhaka. This round table discussion was organised by Katalyst, with an objective of sharing learning (panelists and invitees) on achieving women’s economic empowerment in market development programmes and other rural and agricultural value chain development programmes.
Around 30 participants attended the Round table discussion from profit, micro finance institutions, and private sector stakeholders with an interest in including women in economic development programmes.
The keynote that was presented by Dr. Linda Jones, International Expert of Women’s Economic Empowerment, addressed global challenges and opportunities for women’s economic advancement around the world, and how market development and value chain programmes would offer solutions to integrate women into agriculture sectors. Furthermore, the discussion was focused on women living in rural areas, specially those involved in agricultural production and other agri-businesses. Examples in the form of print and video documentary were also shared to spur dialogue and discussions. Overall, it was a fruitful discussion on women economic empowerment.
