A roundtable discussion was organised by Katalyst and Society for Media and Suitable Human-Communication Technique (SoMaSHTe) at the seminar room of Agriculture Information Service (AIS), on 23 August 2014.
Katalyst created a platform for the government organizations and the media industry to discuss scope of collaboration between these institutions. The prime focus of the discussion was how to identify the gaps (challenges, and opportunities) of sourcing agriculture information from the institutions (who have access to agro data).The parties also discussed various recommendations on how these gaps can be minimized.
The representatives from Bangladesh Institute of Nuclear Agriculture (BINA), Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE), Bangladesh Agriculture Research Council (BARC), Bangladesh Livestock Research Institute (BLRI), Soil Resource Development Institute (SRDI), Department of Fisheries (DoF) and Sher-e- Bangla Agriculture University participated in the discussion on better content sourcing for agriculture based programmes on television. Also, four private TV channels namely, Channel I, ATN Bangla, Ekkator TV, GTV and one public TV channel BTV were present. Reaz Ahmad, prominent news editor, the Daily Star was present as moderator at the roundtable discussion with 30 participants in total. Mr. Syed Khorshed Jafri, Director, Agriculture Information Service (AIS), Mr. Md. Zahangir Alam, Deputy Director (Mass Communication) AIS, renowned media personality Mr. Dewan Siraj of BTV, among others, participated in the discussion.
