Bangladesh Institute of Development Studies (BIDS) in association with Katalyst organized a seminar on ‘Inclusive Market Development (IMD) in Agriculture: Concepts, Scopes and Opportunities’ on 24th November 2015. The purpose of the seminar was to provide an overview on concepts and approaches of how the Government can support IMD in the agriculture sector. Dr. Nazneen Ahmed, Senior Research Fellow (BIDS), Mohammad Harunur Rashid Bhuyan, Research Fellow, BIDS, and Peter Davis, Visiting Research Fellow, University College London, shared their research concepts and insights with representatives from different ministries, the private sector, and the media. Their research is focused on identifying the policy barriers in the fish and vegetable sector and the overall role of government in encouraging the private sector to be more involved in these sectors. Peter Davis informed the audience on experiences of IMD in agriculture from different countries.
The session was chaired by Dr. K A S Murshid, Director General, BIDS. Mr Narayon Chandra Chanda, MP State Minister, Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock was present as the Chief Guest and Dr. M A Sattar Mandal, former Vice Chancellor, Bangladesh Agricultural University, was the Special Guest. The presentation of the paper opened room for discussion on the topic of market-led inclusive growth. Nasir U Ahmed, Head of Capitalisation, Communications and External Relations, Katalyst, was also present at the seminar and discussed the importance of market-led inclusive growth and Katalyst’s role in this process.
