As part of the initiative to update curriculum content on inclusive market development, Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University in collaboration with Katalyst organized a 3 day long workshop to develop course curriculum content on Inclusive Market Development. The workshop was held from 22 August to 24 August at BRAC CDM, Rajendrapur, Dhaka. Katalystsigned a MoU with Sher E Bangla Agricultural University (SAU) in April 2017 with the objective of updating Faculty of Agribusiness Management’s course curriculum, incorporating content on inclusive market models and initiatives based on industry and relevant stakeholders’ need. Three other agricultural universities (Bangladesh Agricultural University, Bangabandhu Sheikh MujiburRahman Agricultural University and Sylhet Agricultural University) had already completed similar initiatives with the strategic guidance of Katalyst in 2016.
Prior to the 3 day long workshop, a need assessment workshop and surveyhad been completed by SAU with the guidance of Katalyst, which assisted SAU to identify new thematic topicsand areas of improvement for their existing curriculum.Based on the findings of the need assessment, the workshop was designed and organized in a manner to analyze the suggestedareas of improvement in the existing curriculum, finalize the content outline and identify relevant content accordingly.The workshop covered topics such asrural supply chain, post-harvest management practices, role of ICT in agriculture, prospect of agro processing industry, agro product marketing & rural marketing, bottom of the pyramid market models, facilitating inclusive agribusiness market etc. A content outline was developed through active inputs from 30 workshop participants, which consisted of faculty members fromSher-E-Bangla Agricultural University, Bangladesh Agricultural University, Bangabandhu Sheikh MujiburRahman Agricultural University, Sylhet Agricultural University and private input companies.
Professor Dr. Md. Sekender Ali, Pro Vice Chancellor, Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University was also present in the event as the Chief Guest. The workshop was conducted by Prof. Noor Md. Rahmatullah, Dean, Faculty of Agribusiness Management, Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University and Dr. M Kamruzzaman, Dean, Faculty of Agribusiness Management, Bangabandhu Sheikh MujiburRahman Agricultural University.
