Krishibid Institution Bangladesh (KIB), in collaboration with Katalyst, has successfully organised a two-day long ‘Agro Career Expo 2017’ for the agriculture graduates of seven leading agricultural educational institutes. The event was held on 29-30 November at the KIB premises.
This is the first ever national career expo targeted exclusively towards the agriculture graduates of Bangladesh. The two-day event comprised of a career fair and professional development sessions conducted by senior professionals from various leading industries.
This event was organised with an objective to strengthen the linkage between agro academia and agro private sector, which had participation from more than 100 private companies and was attended by more than 3000 students.Through this fair, agricultural university students had the opportunity to meet and interact with potential employers. At the same time, the private sector companies were able to collect CVs, conducted spot interviews and recruit graduates with relevant skill sets.
The Honorable Commerce Minister Mr. Tofail Ahmed, MP in the inauguration ceremony and Honorable Finance Minister Mr. Abul Maal Abdul Muhith, MP in the reflection ceremony as chief guests, were present on 29 and 30 November respectively. Both the ministers highlighted the importance of such initiatives for the economic development of the country in their speeches. Along with representatives from UKaid and SDC, private organisations and agriculture graduates, the expo was also attended by many faculty members of agriculture universities, relevant govt. officials, katalyst project staff etc.
Since May 2017, a dedicated sub-committee within KIB with Katalyst has been actively overseeing the planning and preparation for Agro Career Expo 2017. Campus awareness programmes and/or road shows have been held in seven leading agricultural universities, informing students and recent graduates about the upcoming career expo. Workshops have been conducted to coach students on effective CV writing, interview and communication skills. Discussion sessions were held with agro industry associations to ensure participation and support. The Agro Career Expo 2017 has also been promoted to academia and private sector companies through electronic and print media as well as the internet (Facebook, webpage) and career clubs of all seven participating universities.
