Katalyst with its co-facilitator, Society for Media and Suitable Human Communication Techniques (SoMaSHTe) arranged a training during 10- 19 June 2014, to increase the quality of agriculture programme broadcasting in Bangladesh in terms of content, presentation, and time to broadcast. In continuation to this, training on quality News production was also organised from 22-24 June 2014.
The training was facilitated by Katalyst and conducted by Mr. Fred Foster, an experienced media consultant in broadcasting agriculture based programmes on television. The training covered designing audience-led programming, understanding the agricultural industry in Bangladesh, the challenges of producing quality programmes, writing for poor farmers including women, interviewing and presentation skills. 20 participants from 4 television stations (Ekattor TV, Gazi TV, ATN Bangla and Channel i) participated in the training each of whom received a certificate of participation.
Television is the preferred source of information for farmers in Bangladesh. Such training would facilitate TV channels to broadcast quality agro- programmes for farmers in the future.
