A three member team from UKAid visited Katalyst activities in Vegetable, ILGS and ICT sector in Rangpur and Bogra to have a better understanding of M4P approach during 24-26 July, 2011.
On the first day of the visit Shahnewaz Karim, Katalyst and the representatives of UKAid had a discussion on the principles of M4P approach and how Katalyst is implementing M4P in Bangladesh. Karim presented the thematic approach of M4P and its indicators. Similar programmes related with M4P will be rolled out in India and the lessons learnt from Bangladesh would be very useful.
The team also visited the integrated pest management intervention of vegetable sector in Mithapukur, Rangpur. They went to the samities (association) of the Upazila Business Membership Organization (UZBMO) under the ILGS programme. They spoke with the seed retailers and growers who are beneficiaries of the UZBMO and Samity integration. The Palli Karma Shahayak Foundation (PKSF) were also present in the visit who are implementing micro-credit program under a UKAid funded project in that area. Finally, they visited ICT intervention in Gabtoly, Bogra. Arafat Hosain, Katalyst provided a thorough explanation of the process through which the farmers and the service providers of ICT are benefited.
The team from UKAid consisted of Poonam Sandhu, Private Sector Development Advisor, UKAid, Delhi, Anirban Bhowmik, Program Manager and Shahnila Azhar Private Sector Development Advisor, UKAid Bangladesh. Ms. Poonam mentioned that lessons learnt from Katalyst would be very helpful in implementing similar projects in India under the M4P approach.
