Katalyst organized a workshop titled ‘Private Sector’s Opportunities in Local Agri-business Network (LAN)’ on 28th November, 2015. The workshop was aimed to promote LAN to private sector companies as a platform for selling products, services and procuring agricultural produce. Since 2014, Katalyst has established LAN in 180 upazilas all over Bangladesh. As a result, more than two hundred thousand farmers have now become associated with the network. Representatives from leading companies who participated in the workshop included agro-processors, super shop chains, agricultural input companies and financial service providers etc.
The workshop started with an introductory presentation on LAN, followed by a discussion session. It was a very interactive session where upazila traders shared their experiences about LAN and participants learned about the network while sharing their views and suggestions. The response from the private sector participants was very positive as they perceived LAN as an extremely useful network from their business perspective. Katalyst also shared an upcoming plan of publishing a business directory with information on LAN upazila traders and farmers. The project also plans to arrange more workshops in future to promote local Agri-Business Network to the private sector.
